7 questions
to ask when buying a used car.
1. What is
the history of the car? Check out CarFax.com
or autocheck.com for an independent report
about that particular car. Ask the dealer
about the service records of the car. If the
dealer just bought it at auction, they
probably don't have any records. If they
serviced the car for the previous owner,
they may have the records. It doesn't hurt
to ask
2.How are
you going to drive the car? Are you
just going to the local train station every
day or will it be used for long distances?
You may not be too concerned about gas
mileage if it is for short trips.
3. How will
you use the car? Are you working part-time
as a currier? Do you have sufficient space
for your daily chores? Are you just using it
on Sunday's?
4. Does
your family fit? If you have a growing or
already grown family, do they fit in it? Is
the physical space limited?
5. What
kind of warranty comes with the car? Do you
want to extend that warranty, and how much
will that cost? Does the warranty cover just
the most basic things that really never tend
to break?
6. How long
will you keep the car? If it is for a very
short period, have you considered leasing?
If you plan to drive it into the ground, you
probably want a very reliable car.
7. Is this
the best deal? Check out independent sources
like NADA.com or the Kelly Blue Book. Are
other local dealers selling something
similar? Do you trust the dealer?
