Who are we?
This year, I partnered with Bob, a retired
(after 33 years) Social Security director of
the northeast region, and my best friend
Don, who happens to be an expert mechanic
for over ten years, to create a used car
business with service that is second to
none.
Bob worked his way through the ranks to be
the top level director in the area. He was a
government worker with an incredible work
ethic. After he retired, he so many sick
days he never used, the government paid him
a year's salary for them. He is almost
machine like when it comes to numbers, by
examining data, he can tell you how much
something should sell for within about $100.
Bob is a consummate teacher, and one of the
smartest people I ever met. Upon meeting
Bob, you feel comfortable immediately.
Don started the car lot and state inspection
station ten years ago. Most of his
clients become friends, which obviously
makes it difficult to charge them for his
service. If you sit in the office for a day,
you will hear someone offer more money than
what he is charging. People have come to
rely on him and if they move out of the
area, will drive an extra hour to get to
him. He has a way of explaining an issue
with your car in a way that you actually
understand without making you feel stupid. I
am also convinced he can diagnose a car
problem over the phone. He is without a
doubt, an expert at inspecting a car before
an auction.
I'm Tom. It is kind of weird writing about
yourself. My working career started when I
was 6 years old as a paperboy, and knew I
never wanted to work for anybody else. I am
fortunate enough to be able to still have
the claim that I never had a job working for
anybody else. I started three businesses in
college, and sold two of them that are still
viable businesses today, 12 years later.
I've handled the books on a Supreme Court
campaign, I love
skydiving, and I was on The Price Is Right.
